Nguyễn Huy An, born in Hanoi, graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts (2008), is a visual artist who works across disciplines from painting, sculpture to performance, installation.
His art explores the effects of time as a cyclical space and the socio-political relationship between the human world and non-human beings, with an emphasis on the present moments at the heart of contemporary life. He works with ordinary objects and familiar rituals that are part of everyday life – tables, chewed betel quids, hair, and so on – to learn about the sacredness surrounding their function.
Huy An and artists Vũ Đức Toàn and Hoàng Minh Đức founded The Appendix Group (2010); together they performed at many national and regional performance festivals.
