Description

In Checked, an embellished vase has been covered with painted postal stamps in English and Vietnamese. The object itself is a perfect copy of a traditional Yuhuchun wine vase while the seemingly random placement of the red wording furthers the sensation of simulacra. Recognising the symbols covering common shipped packages, the audience can begin to unpack humorous and irreverent allusions to the country’s trading history, concerns with artefact looting, or issues of cultural censorship.
