Statement

This the personal story from Chin, a 24 years old woman whose past is marred by being victim to body-shaming from her loved ones and herself. The work is a response to the false, toxic and misguided notions of contemporary feminism. The artist chooses to honour feminine beauty by capturing images and moments from any ordinary day. The encasing clear boxes suggest the invisible prejudices still being imposed on femininity, not only from society but also from women on themselves. The transparent resin grips onto the images as if those prejudices have taken roots and become norms.

Statement is excerpted from “Assemblage: Me, my story and I" Exhibition Booklet, 2023, p.43.
