Himiko Nguyen

Himiko Nguyen was born in Mỹ Tho, Tiền Giang, Vietnam. Her works consist of project series examining the topic of gender and the third gender in a very strict and distinct society, together with projects relating to sculpture, visual and performance art. In 2005, she graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture, and established Himiko Visual Café, the first alternative art space in Saigon in November. She has held 46 personal exhibitions for young artists, as well as more than 15 meet and exchange workshops in this space.

From 2010 to 2011, she carried out The Happening project, a series of 15 exhibitions running through the whole year, with the participation of 13 young Saigonese artists at Himiko Visual Café.

In July 2012, she suffered from traumatic brain injury due to a motorbike crash with the Glasgow Coma Score being merely 3/15. After recovering from it, she returned to work with the Come out II installation project.

Himiko also participated in international group exhibitions such as Connect: Art Scene Vietnam - IFA Gallery, Berlin, Germany (2009), Asian Artists in Residence Program - Cheongju Cultural Complex, South Korea (2007) and NIPPAF (2006).
