UuDam Tran Nguyen was born in Kontum, studied at the University of Fine Art in Saigon (1990–1994), graduated from UCLA with a BA (2001), and got his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York (2005).

UuDam transforms the boundaries between urban myth and popular legend to both celebrate - and warn - of the role and impact of human progress and its desire for social advancement. Working with video, performance, photography, sculpture, robotics and new media, Nguyen’s playfully thought-provoking practice is today one of the prominent voices of Vietnamese contemporary art.

His works has been mentioned and reviewed in top art magazines including: Art Forum, Flash Art, Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, Vietnam News, Blouin ArtInfo, The New York Times, Saigoneer, Los Angeles Times, Art Radar Journal, Art Monthly London, Japan Times, Degree Critical (NYC), Cobo Social, Art Radar Journal, Vietcetera, etc.

UuDam is also a cofounder of the collective XEM artist book in Ho Chi Minh City.
